American Carl Ethan Akeley, a taxidermist at the Chicago Museum of Natural History, who had designed a device for creating artificial landscapes using sprayed plaster, developed the device from around 1907 into a functional two-chamber conveyor for applying cement-based materials. In 1911, Akeley was granted a patent for this so-called cement gun, which can be considered the \u201cbirth\u201d of shotcrete technology. Since then, shotcrete recipes have been continuously developed and improved, especially in recent decades, achieving high-performance construction technology that has dramatically changed underground construction in particular (tunnels, mines).<\/p><h4>Shotcrete technology<\/h4><p>Shotcrete technology has been further developed and significantly improved in recent decades. In terms of shotcrete volumes, markets and technology have shifted from dry shot to wet shot. However, this does not mean that the older method of dry spraying will be replaced by the more modern method of wet spraying, as both have been developed for different applications and requirements. In recent years, these two methods have stood side by side. As the dry shotcrete equipment is much smaller and easier to handle, dry shotcrete is mainly used for smaller quantities, e.g. in repair and special works such as the construction of swimming pools or so-called country houses and also in concrete repair. However, wet spraying is mainly used in the stabilization of structures or in construction, where a large amount of ready-mixed concrete must be applied in a short time, e.g. to stabilize rocks or soil.
