Traveter Grupp OÜ carried out the concrete repair and waterproofing of the tank over two consecutive years. First, the concrete surface was repaired: the reinforced concrete shell panels and the reinforcement were sandblasted, an anti-corrosion coating was applied, and the surfaces were shotcreted with a 35 mm layer of sprayed concrete to provide sufficient cover for the reinforcement. Shotcrete was supplied by Sakret AS. The shotcrete applied to the inner surfaces of the tank contained an admixture that increases water resistance. In addition to shotcrete, the outer surface of the tank was covered with concrete repair filler and painted. Shotcreting inside took place in autumn 2021 and outside in spring 2022.
On the Paljassaare peninsula in Tallinn lies the shore well of the Tallinna Vesi AS wastewater treatment plant, built in 1977. It is a cylindrical reinforced concrete tank located 13.5 m underground, with a height of 19 m. The diameter of the well is 19 metres, and the wall thickness of the tank is 0.6–2.2 m.
The tank stands on a monolithic reinforced concrete footing. Its walls have three layers: precast reinforced concrete shell panels 70 mm thick were used as formwork on the inner and outer surfaces, and a monolithic reinforced concrete load-bearing wall was cast between them. The shell panels only have a protective function and are not relevant to the load-bearing capacity of the tank. Treated wastewater flows through the tank and continues into Tallinn Bay. Inside the tank are the ends of the steel inlet and outlet pipes and an overflow pipe. There is a service ladder on the outside of the tank, and at the top there is a walkway approximately 1.0 m wide with steel handrails.
