Foundation strengthening and waterproofing at Mõmmik Nursery

As part of the renovation of Tallinn’s Mõmmik Nursery, Traveter Grupp OÜ carried out extensive foundation strengthening and waterproofing works. The aim was to repair damage caused by rising damp and ground water, restore the durability of the below-ground structures and improve the building’s long-term moisture resistance. We also carried out a range of renovation works on the building’s plinth, stairs and outdoor areas.

The existing paving was removed, the foundations were excavated and prepared for waterproofing. Damaged wall surfaces were filled and strengthened with shotcrete, a horizontal injection barrier was installed to stop rising damp, and a watertight protective system was applied using KÖSTER NB 4000 mineral waterproofing. A drainage membrane was installed over the waterproofing to carry ground water safely away and to protect the waterproofing layer from mechanical damage.

The ground beneath the courtyard-side entrance vestibule was stabilised by injection, and the west entrance was rebuilt with a new slab foundation, walls and load-bearing stair structures. The entrance stairs were also renovated.

The project was completed with the rehabilitation of the existing sewer pipes using CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) lining. This restored the inner surface of the pipes without extensive excavation, extending their service life and minimising disruption to the use of the building.
